Facility Update

The City of Richmond Hill has approved the re-opening of Ed Sackfield Arena as of Tuesday, August 4, 2020. Due to limited ice availability, YRSA will be offering ticket ice for competitive skaters.

YRSA continues to work with Skate Ontario regarding protocols for restarting CanSkate programs. This will be challenging as physical distancing must be followed at all times. For skaters who have achieved CanSkate stage 2 or higher, we hope to offer programs in September.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.

Program Information

Offered Fall, Winter, and Spring

A great introduction for 3-year old children to experience standing on ice for the first time and learning to balance, glide, and jump in a safe, fun filled program accompanied with toys, bubbles and background skating music. Ribbons are given out to skaters who complete the skills for Pre-Canskate.

The skater must be 3 years old at the time of registration.

Offered Year-Round

A program for children ages 3 and older where the focus is on ice skating skills, filled with challenge and fun. After 30 minutes of group lesson, we have a fully supervised 'Playtime' for all with plastic hockey sticks and plastic coloured balls, or skating around the ice to practice skills or chase bubbles. Then comes clean-up time and cool-down time with a leading coach and music. Report cards are given out at the end of each session. Badges are continually given out throughout the program -- as soon as skaters passes a level, they are awarded the badge and are moved to a higher skill level group.

Offered Fall, Winter, and Spring

A program for skaters who have passed Stage 5 and are ready to learn dancing, freestyle, edges, and turns. Our program is group instruction, with the last 10 minutes for 'free time' when skaters practice what they have learned. This program is a fully recreational one for those skaters who complete Canskate and want to continue ice skating, but without the pressure of competitions.

Offered Fall, Winter, and Spring

Our fully qualified instructors provide you with the confidence to skate on your own. You will learn how to skate with full strides and then learn turns and stopping.

Lessons are on Olympic size ice pad at Ed Sackfield Arena (311 Valleymede Drive, Richmond Hill). The club is dedicated to promote and develop skating in the York Region's Richmond Hill and surrounding areas.

Sanctioned by Skate Canada - all skaters are registered with Skate Canada. The annual membership fee includes insurance coverage for the skating season (September 1, 2019 - August 31, 2020). This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
